What the lesbian flag looks like?
The flag under the sunset
The Sunset Flag was launched by Tumblr blogger Emily Gwen in 2018 to more comprehensively represent the diversity of lesbian communities. She felt that the previous flag did not include everyone. So the design of the sunset flag incorporates richer colors, symbolizing the fusion of different identities and experiences. This flag quickly gained popularity upon its launch and became one of the new symbols of lesbianism.
The colors and meanings of lesbian flags
This flag consists of seven stripes, ranging in color from dark orange to dark pink, each representing the power possessed by lesbian women.
Deep orange represents "gender inconsistency", orange represents "independence", light orange represents "community", white represents "unique female relationships", pink represents "tranquility and peace", dark pink represents "love and sex", and deep rose represents "feminine temperament".
The history of lesbian flags
The first lesbian pride flag was designed by graphic designer Sean Campbell in 1999, consisting of a double-edged sword (a double headed axe) and an inverted black triangle overlaid on a purple background. The double-edged sword is a weapon used by Amazon female warriors in Greek mythology. In the 1970s, it was used as a symbol of empowerment by the lesbian feminist community.
Will the sunset flag be the only flag?
Not necessarily.
No flag has been officially designated as a lesbian flag because there are too many flags representing people's different wishes. Different representative flags have also appeared in different periods. These flags can all be used to represent your lesbian identity.
