Where did Pride Month come from?
LGBT Pride Month was established to commemorate the 1969 Stonewall Riots.
In the early morning of June 28, 1969, a gay bar called "Stonewall" in Greenwich Village, New York City, USA, was raided by the police. Gay men dressed as women were forcibly arrested, and the police violently beat the arresters. That night, the long-oppressed gay community fought back against the police in what became known as the Stonewall Riots.

The incident sparked conflicts that lasted for decades. Starting from the United States, gay rights organizations dedicated to confrontational strategies have gradually been established in various countries. More sexual minorities are joining the anti-discrimination team and fighting for legal status, equal rights, and social recognition. In 2015, the U.S. Supreme Court legalized same-sex marriage nationwide. The bar where the Stonewall Incident took place also became a National Historic Landmark in 2016.
Why do people wave rainbow flags during Pride month?
The rainbow flag is a symbol of gender diversity and sexual diversity around the world and represents hope, pride, and diverse love. Each color of the flag has a special symbolic meaning: red represents life, orange represents healing, yellow represents sunlight, green represents nature, blue represents peace, and purple represents spirit. Together, these colors symbolize the diversity and inclusion of the LGBTQ+ community and their shared goals of equality and freedom.
In the LGBTQ+ community, of course, there is not just one flag. During Pride Month, the LGBTQ+ community and allies will use the rainbow flag extensively to celebrate their identity, love, and freedom through rich colors, showing pride and celebrating diverse genders and sexualities.

What’s the point of Pride Month?
For many members of the LGBTQ+ community, Pride Month is a time to publicly celebrate and express their identity and sexual orientation to the outside world. It also hopes to increase public understanding of LGBTQ+ community issues, rather than blindly colored Perspectives and stereotypes, and encourage everyone to become a part of the affirmative action initiative.
Gay Pride Month is not only a celebration of diverse cultures and identities, but also a celebration of our society becoming more tolerant and understanding. As we celebrate Pride Month, we also need to remember those members of the LGBTQ+ community who are still fighting for recognition and acceptance. At the same time, we will continue to raise public awareness of LGBTQ+ issues and continue to promote the global affirmative action movement.
